    The routes are paved with lush vineyards, rolling golden hills and dramatic ocean views. If you’re coming from Northern California, 101 South offers a direct route, or consider taking the slower but far more scenic drive along the Pacific Ocean on Highway 1. Coming from Southern California, take 101 North. Residents from the Central Valley can take the 41 East or 46 East to the 101 South.

    Amtrak provides regular service to San Luis Obispo. The Amtrak station is close to downtown and is served daily by the Coast Starlight train and twice daily by the Pacific Surfliner train. www.amtrakcalifornia.com

    Greyhound offers a daily bus schedule into San Luis Obispo County from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the San Joaquin Valley. www.greyhound.com

    American Eagle, Air San Luis, United Express, and America West offer commercial flights into the regional airport, located just outside San Luis Obispo.

While many attractions can be enjoyed any time, each time of year has something unique to offer. In the summer, temperatures average a pleasant 70 to 80 degrees, just right for shopping or enjoying the evening light as you walk along the creek after a dinner downtown. During autumn, breathe in the crisp morning air from the Jacuzzi outside your hotel room before a day of wine tasting. When winter comes, take a leisurely bike ride around the green, rolling hills surrounding the city. Wildflowers start to bloom in early spring, flooding the surrounding hills with purples, blues, oranges, and reds.
